About Us
Poplar Grove School began in July 2000 as a preschool through eighth-grade school of choice. It operated on a balanced calendar drew students from all other FSSD schools, many of which were beginning to see capacity issues emerge. In 2012, the district moved to one traditional calendar and schools were rezoned, removing Poplar Grove from a school of choice and establishing it as a zoned school.
Poplar Grove Middle School serves approximately 375 students in grades 5-8. In keeping with the FSSD’s mission, Poplar Grove Middle seeks to:
- Develop a community of learners that emphasizes academics along with kindness, encouragement, caring, and compassion.
- Provide a comprehensive array of instructional programs and experiences for students that focus on all essential areas of education and adolescent development.
- Encourage collaboration and shared decision making involving students, teachers, administrators, support staff, parents, and community members.
- Emphasize continuous improvement and a constant search for better ways of educating students.
All courses are aligned with the Tennessee Academic Standards and taught in accordance with locally developed pacing guides, which assists FSSD teachers in planning instruction and ensuring specific content is addressed with consistency across the district. See our Curriculum and Instruction page for more information. The Middle School Course Offerings Guide encompasses information on academic courses and programs. The Middle School Handbook, which is distributed at the start of the school year, provides more detailed information about the day-to-day operation of the school.
