State Seeks Public Input on Social Studies Standards

The Tennessee Department of Education website is currently open for the first of two windows of public feedback on the state social studies standards. This first window will close April 30, 2016. The State Board of Education (SBE) will work in conjunction with the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) to collect all of the comments submitted to this website. Educator development teams will review the website feedback this summer and make revisions to the standards. Another draft set of standards will be posted following these changes in fall 2016 and an appointed Standards Recommendation Committee will make the ultimate recommendation for new social studies standards to the SBE in early 2017. Clean out your bookshelves and donate any children’s or adult BOOKS that your family no longer reads.  The donated books will be sold in our annual Used Book Sale on Feb. 29-Mar. 4th.  All proceeds will benefit the PGS Library Media Centers. 3.) Collect the HOLIDAY CARDS (and all-occasion cards) you receive that have no writing on the back of the cover.  Send in the cover half of the holiday card (you can cut off the message half or Green Team members can cut them for you).  These cards will be donated to the St. Jude’s Ranch, which is a residential program for abandoned children.  The children there learn basic job skills by recreating the cards into new ones to be sold to benefit their program....
